The Green Market will open June 7 in Singapore's Terminal 2, promising to start travelers' journey with the concept of "Go Green, Go Natural."

The 2,200 square foot (204 square meter) space, designed by Hong Kong designer Kinney Chan, uses a "green terrace" as its centerpiece, with earth-tone colors and "greenery" in the lights.

Unlike traditional airport lounge, The Green Market emphasises on green and natural, bringing all guests an innovative experience to enjoy premium facilities and services under one roof. With a seating capacity of 85 persons, guests can enjoy table-served fresh food and services, be amused by all-you-can-eat salad and dessert bar and relax in the oasis amid the hectic airport. Wi-Fi, Internet stations, newspapers, TV programmes and magazines are also available.

Air filtration is provided by the eco-friendly Oxyvital system, a purification system which manufactuerers say cleans the air at a molecular level to make passengers "healthier, happier and more productive."

The lounge also serves Japanese, cooked-to-order meals for guests, using fresh ingredients and accompanied by sake.

The Green Market is operated by Plaza Premium Lounge Management, which allows guests to pay for access regardless of airline or class of travel and currently operates the world's largest "pay-in" lounge and spa at Hong Kong International Airport.

Singapore Changi, voted the world's best airport in a recent Skytrax survey, is already implementing other-eco friendly measures across the airport as part of its Changi Goes Green program.

It recently installed solar panels on the roof of the Budget Terminal, which now generate about 950 kWh of energy a day.

However, the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation last year picked India's GMR Hyderabad International Airport as the greenest airport in the Asia Pacific region, saying that it had set "a benchmark for other airports in the region to follow."
